Example of Lines

Text

A useful but not widely used tool

Increasing text sizel

+ Will increase the text size. However you cannot change any of features of the text including the font.

Haftones

Very fun to use

Haftones are very flexible.

Increasing the opacity
To increase the opacity you need to changeto which setting you would prefer. the higher it is the denser the tones will be and vice versa.

Changing color
Sure manga is usually done in black and white tones but color tones is also fun to use. change the default color from black to whatever you want, using to change the opacity and choosing a color form the color bar.

Blur

another very useful tool and easy tool to use

Increasing blurring strength
+

will determine the strength of your blur.

Light

A  tricky tool to master

The light tool can be an enemy to most oekakiers or an obsession. If you don’t use it correctly your picture may end up very sloppy.

Adjusting the light strength

To adjust the light strength you use when it’s all the way up the light can be either pure white depending ont he color. Not all colors respond to light in the same way, especially reds

Dark

Not a very important tool or greatly used.

the reason why I say it’s not that important is because many people like myself usually use the in order to darken their picture by simply choosing a darker color. But it can produce interesting effects if you know how to use it

Increasing the strength of darkness

Shapes

Another useful but not widely used tool

There are only 2 basic shapes you can create you can create in oekaki and that is ovals and rectangles.

The filled rectangle means that will create a solid shape
The outline of the rectangle will only create the outline and the same applies for oval

Copying

a not so commonly used tool

If you thought I meant copying a none oekaki made picture into an oekaki, that’s not it. Oekaki is specifically designed for people to show off raw talent not copy outside pictures or post photos XD.

To copy you click on and extend the rectangle that it creates over the section you want to duplicate then move it.

Anti-lias

ok I have no idea what this thing specifically does

Shame on me! i’ve been oekaking for over 6 years and i stil haven’t found out the purpose of this tool. But that doesn’t mean I don’t use it. based on my observation it seems to create some sort of blurring effect.
+
increases or decreases the extent of this effect. I mostly use it on s

Layer unify

useful to get you out of a jam but not without a catch

Switching layers
people usually use layerunify when they have trouble with layers and wanna switch. To switch a layer to another choose either
or

The extend the selection you want to switch BUT whatever you select, the entire selection will be brought over to layer of your choice. So if you drew on separate layers before it will be completely changed. So becareful when you use this tool

Erase

The most important tool on the board

When I mean important I mean important! especially when using layers. Whenever you erase it is essential you use this tool and not solid or watercolors or the color white.

Use this to change the opacity

Example of coloring using layers

Making a smooth erase
This is useful when erasing watercolors. Use+ this will change the opacity and automatically make you erase smoothly. If not keep it high so it will be solid.

With one click your entire picture will be erased! but no worries the undo button is there

freehand lines

freehand very useful.

As the name suggests You can either do freehand lines, straight lines or beszier. the freehand is the default tool and is the most used.

The Fg/BG layers

A very useful feature when dealing with advanced drawings.

Think of layers as 2 completely different canvas. It is like having 2 workspaces in one. This is a tricky concept for beginners to grasp but think logically.

The BG layer
The BG layer, as I like to call it, is the weaker layer, because it located at the bottom of the FG layer. Whatever you draw on it can be easily overdrawn by something else on the Fg layer. BG layer is excellent to sketch and color and do back grounds.

The FG layer
The FG layer is the mother of all layers.once something is drawn on it it can only be corrected or fixed once you are on the FG layer. it over-rides any color or anything on the Bg layer. This why you must be careful when using both layers. The layer is great for lineart and drawing things you want in front of whatever you are drawing on the BG layer.

Normal mode

The main mode

It is recommends that when drawing regardless of layers etc. you should always use the normal mode if you are unsure of what the other modes are. the normal mode as the name suggest mean normal meaning you can color or draw freely on whatever layer you are on

Masked mode

a useful mode when dealing with solids

Mask tool allows you to color over any color ( depending on layers) except black. This is very useful when you do solid black lineart. You can easily color them and not accidentally color the lineart itself. it especially saves you time layer wise.
