Prince Shadwell was the younger son of two to be heir to the throne of Aliseria. He was being controlled by the Darkness sprit of Deo that convinced him to murder his father and mother and, since his older brother Peligrim went missing years ago, Shadwell instantly claimed the throne. The Darkness eventually overtook his soul and allowed Shadwell to deny the coming of Demons into the continent. In the end Peligrim returned to reclaim the throne and correct the situation and had no choice to kill his younger brother Shadwell to free him of the evil spirit.
