Before the Quest:
Lai was sold by his parents who couldn’t take of him to a malicious powerful Cato lady called Keiko. She wanted Lai as he own personal slave boy but he was too depressed about his parents leaving him and did nothing she told to do. In retaliation she put a collar with a curse on him; it removed all of his emotions making him emotionless and doing everything she told him to do. When Lai turned 19 she was getting bored of him and got a new slave boy and abandoned Lai without telling him anything on the outskirts of the main town.
During the Quest:
Lai had been waiting for nearly a week on the side of the main road for Keiko to return but she never did. Exhausted he collapsed and was later found by Jillian and her companion Kimi who couldn’t leave Lai at the side of the road in an impoverished condition. They helped him a bit and said he couldn’t follow them if he’d liked ( Kimi thought it was a good idea to have someone extra with them for protection) Lai decided that maybe he could stick with them and may eventually find Keiko. He helped the group and did whatever Jillian told him to do. Lai never said a word for almost the entire quest, only simple gestures and maybe a word or two. Eventually he did meet up with Keiko who bluntly said that she had no use for him anymore. Jillian told Lai he could stay with her and Lai immediately took to Jillian as his new master and continued to protect her and the group. Lai didn’t really do that much in the group since he never talked just did as he was told; he did however help out when someone was in danger and randomly gave out sudden bursts of power with his deadly hand to hand fighting skills.
After the Quest:
Lai’s curse had broken but after he had to relearn his emotions and his communication skills all over a again. With Jillian being married and taken care of Samir Lai knew she no longer needed him anymore and left in order to search for a new purpose in life. He returned to the main city where Peligrim offered him a top ranking job as leader in city security.
